Zymechanik is a free Windows application that allows you to analyse text files and extract certain information that are often embedded within those files. It does so by using the pyYAML library to load the raw data into your application and then calling the built-in libcURL library to fetch and process the data. This allows you to use the tool on all sorts of files, but it is particularly suited to XML files, since the format provides a clear structure and logical tag names to make it easy for the tool to extract the required information. The available tags are: File, URL, Title, Notes, Date, MIME, Author, Link, Copyright, License and URL.
Zymechanik is the brainchild of French company, Winsoft. It is free software and the source code can be found at
The iSeek: An Escrow of the Internet I have often expressed the desire to see an escrow of the Internet so that we could all share information without worrying about who is listening, and no one could deny access to the knowledge that they had not agreed to share. In short, I would like to see a community version of DRM that was designed specifically for the Internet, not to lock me out of my content, but to make sure that I didn’t share it with anyone that didn’t agree to let me do so. The idea is that if your copy of the content is in escrow, and you agree to certain rules, then all of the content in escrow would belong to you, but you would be able to let other people use it for any purpose, and your record would be retained in a very public way. This would mean that, if you wanted to, you could swap your digital music with your friends, or your digital movie with your friend, or your digital video game with your friend, but they would have to promise to keep a copy of the content for themselves, and would have to agree not to distribute it in any way that violated your escrow agreement. And if they violated your agreement, you could come back and take your content back. And it would be very easy for you to determine that your own copy of the content was not being properly used.
