I have two forms in the WPF window. It is a Main form and a dialog form. In the main form the user has the option to choose what kind of user picture they want to display. The user picture is saved in the local store. For example, if the user picks the red picture the picture path is saved in the local store as “\\Users\User1\Pictures\red.jpg”. Now the dialog form is shown as a popup. When I press the ok button in the dialog form the user picture needs to be selected.
However, I have a problem. I can’t get the path of the picture. When I enter the path in the local store of the dialog form it returns with nothing. But if I enter the same path in the main form and then click on the ok button in the dialog form the path is set in the local store as expected.
I don’t want to use a global variable. I want to save the path in the local store. Any ideas?
A:
I found the solution. Instead of using the local store to store the path I used the registry.
Q:
Type error with.substring and.split
I’m trying to remove the spaces around a certain letter and then split the string. Here is the code:
word = “applesauce”
word.substring(0,1)
Traceback (most recent call last):
File “D:/Assignment 3/Assignment 3/assignment3.py”, line 4, in
word.substring(0,1)
TypeError: a bytes-like object is required, not’str’
I thought that it would be a good idea to convert the string to a list and then extract the 1st element, but I ran into the same error. I don’t understand why. What is the type of the word object? Is it a list? Or a bytes-like object? I thought it would be a list because I have previously used the split method on a string and it worked.
word = “applesauce”
word.split(” “)
Traceback (most recent call last):
File “D:/Assignment 3/Assignment 3/assignment3.py”, line 6, in
word.split(” “)

IconPackager is a powerful application designed to change all icons on your Windows workstations at once, providing not only several built-in packages, but also the possibility to download new ones from the Internet.
Manage and enrich your icon collections
The interface boasts an eye-candy interface that makes everything pretty easy to use, so everybody should be able to use it just fine, regardless if we’re talking about rookies or more experienced users.
As said, IconPackager comes with several built-in icon packages, but it also boasts a dedicated tool to download more of them from the Internet. Of course, there’s a preview window to see the content of the whole package, as well as the possibility to change colors and see live folders.
Completely personalize icons on your computer
Another important tool integrated into IconPackager is the possibility to change the content of every single package, which means you can customize desktop, Start Menu, folders, drives, files, Control Panel and even cursors. Every single icon can be replaced with one of your own.
The “Settings” screen lets you pick the included icon sections, but also configure the app behavior when opening icon packages. You can thus restore all icons before opening a new package, use smart package loading or restart Windows Explorer on apply to correctly display all icons.
During our testing, IconPackager worked like a charm and applied the new icon packages without any problem. Still, it’s recommended to make a backup before anything else, just to make sure you’re on the safe side all the time.
A few last words
All in all, IconPackager is a very handy software solution and it definitely serves its purpose in the right way. It can be safely used by beginners and more experienced users, although it doesn’t include a help manual in the standard package.
